Research Interests

Calum’s research interests broadly focus on the public management of sustainable development policy in different contexts.  His PhD thesis was on implementing environmental policy in Scotland with reference to water pollution control and Government support for the voluntary environmental sector.  More recent research has focused on the integration of sustainable development as a cross-cutting theme in EU regional policy.  He is currently researching the public management of crofting within the context of the Scottish Government’s crofting reform agenda. Calum is co-editor of ‘Managing Organizational Change in Public Services: International Issues, Challenges and Cases’  published by Routledge in 2009.  He regularly publishes articles and commentary pieces in peer-reviewed academic journals, national and local press and other outlets.
