The Deer Commission for Scotland (DCS) has an increasing concern with regard to the 'diffuse' impacts of deer in the 'wider countryside', i.e., outside areas designated for nature conservation.
The CMS has undertaken a scoping study for the DCS on the definition of public interest objectives linked to deer management, particularly those relating to biodiversity management, and on the potential of existing datasets for assessing deer impacts, in order to propose priorities in defining future approaches to monitoring diffuse impacts.
A further study for the DCS has considered the importance of the close season for deer management in a number of European countries and North America.
The scoping study has been made available by the Deer Commission.
