Welcome to the Centre for Interpretation Studies.
Established in 2007, the Centre is becoming renowned nationally and internationally for the quality of its teaching, research and professional contribution to the creation of innovative, effective and sustainable interpretation.
We work with museums, galleries and heritage organisations to link policy aspirations to front end delivery. To achieve this, our work with international organisations, government departments and agencies, charities, businesses and individuals focuses on evaluation and applied research, project advice, knowledge and skills training and workforce development.
As the role of meaning making in museums is increasingly recognised and the dialogue between objects, representation and society better understood, knowledge and skills in interpretation are increasingly important.
Being able to harness the narratives and stories of the past and present, and engage people in a democratic discussion through museum collections, spaces and activities requires both substantive theoretical understanding and awareness of practical and applicable skills and competencies.
