 Seahorse made from rubbish

Perth College UHI is hosting American visitors as part of a project to create art from common waste materials.  Students and staff from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, (IUP) are making their trip to Perthshire as part of their aim to explore recycling art methods as part of the ‘One Island Project’, a university-based research venture that investigates methods for creating art from waste created by our global consumer society.

Invited by the Creative Industries department and the International Centre at Perth College UHI, the group will collaborate with UHI students and staff on exploring innovative methods of expression in this special form of art.
Christiana Margiotti, Perth College UHI Curriculum Manager in Creative Industries explained:  “We are delighted to welcome Professor Steven Loar and his students.  Professor Loar is famed for his teaching of the creation of artistic animals made entirely from rubbish in America and he will be exploring the use of plastic as an art making material in free community workshops in our arts studio.  This would be ideal for teachers and artists wishing to stretch into a new, environmentally-friendly medium, with an internationally-renowned artist.”

The workshop will be held on Friday 2 July from 10am - 3pm, with a final exhibition of the project on Friday 9 July.  To register for the free workshop, contact 01738 877285 or email christiana.margiotti@perth.uhi.ac.uk.  For more information, see www.oneisland.us.
