General Courses

For our general English language courses, we test students at the start of their course and then monitor them to ensure they are at the correct level. General English classes are designed to help develop language skills - to help you speak more fluently and write more clearly, as well as giving plenty of listening and reading. They also include preparation for examinations and assessments.

Our integrated approach encourages the use of grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary, and special expressions in context and provides you with the chance to use and understand English in real-life tasks.

Our general courses feature:

  • Year-round classes from late August to June
  • Students can enrol and start any Monday
  • 15 or 20 hours of tuition per week
  • Maximum of 20 students per class
  • Elementary to advanced levels

Exam Preparation

Cambridge ESOL examinations are held each year in March, December and June at Perth College UHI.

The Cambridge Main Suite English exams are internationally recognised, valid for life and are administered here at Perth College UHI. In addition, the Language School prepares students for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test through practice of different question styles and ensuring they enter examinations at the appropriate levels.

Our exam preparations include:

  • Year-round classes from late August to June
  • 21 hours of tuition per week
  • Start any Monday (please check examination and entry dates before applying)
  • Maximum of 20 students per class
  • Intermediate to advanced levels

You can choose from a number of courses and degree programmes at other colleges which are also members of UHI Millennium Institute.

English for Employees

Every day, people from all over the world arrive in the UK and Perth, looking for employment and opportunities. Perth College UHI works with local employers to help improve the English language skills of their workforce. We can tailor programmes to suit individual business needs and can deliver tuition to groups or individuals, either in Perth College UHI or the workplace.

Contact the International Centre to discuss how we can help meet your specific business needs.

Private Lessons

Many students choose to study one-to-one with an English tutor to increase the intensity of their course, to study and discuss literature, to prepare a presentation, to focus on writing reports, or simply to work on increasing vocabulary or oral fluency in conversation.

Private lessons should be booked in advance and can be taken whether or not you are enrolled in another language course.
