About this course
Conservation and management of our environment play an increasingly important role in all our lives. Like any other resource, the countryside must be cared for properly, so we have designed this course to give you the skills you need to get started in this expanding area. You will discover the Influence of land management on Scotland’s heritage and learn how to contribute to the care of this key resource. The course is aimed at those who want to work outdoors and includes practical skills, field trips, residentials and projects in land improvement.

You study
This introduction to countryside management includes: Ecology; estate maintenance; woodland and wildlife management; habitats; hard and soft landscaping; soil management; health and safety; plant identification and a range of practical skills, including fencing and drystane dyking.
Getting Started
While there are no formal entry requirements, you should be motivated and enthusiastic about a career in countryside management. You will be invited to discuss your application with us. This course would be ideally suited for someone with a qualification like the Skills for Work: Rural Skills programme.
