Methven Wood Field Trip
On Friday 18 September HND Countryside Management students visited Methven Wood as part of a series of second year field excursions. This wood is located near Almondbank and is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) due to its ancient stands of oak, alder and other broadleaf tree species. It also has a recorded history of management stretching back nearly 1000 years which provides a valuable source of information for woodland historians and researchers.
During the field trip the students and staff (Stuart Downie and Andy Gallagher) carried out surveys of tree species and soil collecting observations and data for their ecology and statistics units.

Pathway to Medicine moves on
After completing a successful three-year pilot phase, the innovative Pathway to Medicine course at Perth College UHI has moved on to become an established part of the curriculum. This year's intake (2009-10) are the fourth batch of students to benefit from this widely praised initiative. In collaboration with Bute Medical School at the University of St Andrews, the course offers students from non-traditional backgrounds the chance to gain a guaranteed place at medical school by achieving a high level pass on the one-year HNC Applied Sciences course.
Comments by past students about some of our courses
“Pathway to Medicine” (HNC Applied Sciences)
"...it has been very intense, hard work, but I’ve loved every minute of it. People tell me I smile every time I mention the college" – Cassandra Smith
“This course has really tested me but I know its going to prepare me for Medical School at St. Andrews next year" – Mohsin Roshan
"The teaching in Perth is superb. They truly understand that you may have been out of education for years so they take it really slowly to begin with and eventually pick up the pace after a month or two. The teachers are mostly available for tutorial sessions if you're having trouble... you have the best teaching available.” - Alex Davidson
Horticulture
“Just wanted to let you know that we started at Gleneagles last Monday... So thanks to you we might both have landed on our feet.” – Rosemary Macdonald
“…Do come and visit Wisley as a major player in getting me there..” – Jeanette Paterson
