Rob did a BSc degree in Botany at the University of Dundee before completing his PhD in Plant Physiology and Mycorrhizas at the University of Sheffield. Following a 5-year spell in commercial chrysanthemum growing, he entered the teaching profession and has been at Perth College UHI for the past 10 years and head of the section for some 9 years. He teaches on the Horticulture, Science and Countryside Management courses.

Stuart trained as a gardener and did a BSc in Ecology at the University of Stirling before moving on to work at the Royal Botanic Garden at Ben More, Dunoon. He started teaching Rural Skills at Perth College UHI in 1989 and completed an MSc in Environmental Management in 2000. He now teaches on the Countryside Management and Horticulture courses. Stuart manages the Balnaguard Nature Reserve on a voluntary basis for the Scottish Wildlife Trust.

After gaining a degree in microbiology from Heriot-Watt University, Maggie worked as a research assistant with Edinburgh University in the Microbiology and Botany departments. She then spent some years at home looking after her three children before returning to work at Perth College UHI teaching part-time and as a science technician. Maggie is now a full-time member of staff.

Andy has worked in land-based industries, outdoor education and environmental health and has a BSc in environment and landscape from Surrey University. He has held training and access and disability posts, including a period as industrial liaison officer at Merrist Wood Agricultural College. Andy completed an MEd. at Stirling in environmental education and teaches on Perth College UHI’s Countryside Management courses.

Sheena completed a BSc degree in Cell Biology at the University of Glasgow, after which she carried out research for a year in Edinburgh on the effects of Zinc on inflammation. Following this she got a job at the Beatson Institute for Cancer Research in Glasgow where she worked as part of a research group looking at the role of the ras oncogene in the development of skin cancer. After 12 years there, she had a career break to have children and returned to work as a lecturer, first at Falkirk and then at Perth College UHI.

Ruth has a BSc in Microbiology from the University of Dundee which she followed with a PhD in Molecular Genetics at the University of Edinburgh. She then spent a number of years working in research at various establishments including the Roslin Institute and the MRC Human Genetics unit. Ruth has been at Perth College UHI for several years teaching Biotechnology, Microbiology and Genetics.

Margaret has been involved in Horticulture for many years. She started teaching primary children in environmental and science matters and after obtaining a degree in Biology she specialised in environment and horticulture teaching for over 10 years at SAC (Scottish Agricultural College), Auchincruive, before moving to Perthshire. Margaret is the owner of Plants with a Purpose, a nursery in Bankfoot, Perthshire, specialising in unusual and overlooked plant species. She is also a consultant on landscape management and design and has a penchant for apiculture and slime moulds.

Andrew has a BSc in Biochemistry from Edinburgh University and a PhD in Organic Chemistry from Cambridge University. He has worked as a freelance writer, researcher and consultant since 1981 and has lectured part-time at Perth College UHI since 1996. He teaches on the HNC Applied Sciences, Access to Science and Complementary Therapy Chemistry courses.
