What is Perth College UHI?
We are a community college for further and higher education located in the heart of Scotland. Nearly 10,000 students—of all different ages, backgrounds and interests—studied with us last year, learning at all levels from short taster courses all the way up earning their PhD.
Is Perth College UHI right for me?
We believe you are limited only by your imagination—whatever it is you want to do we can help you get more. Regardless of your background, your interests, your experience, there is almost certainly something for you here. We have designed our course search to be especially user friendly. You can search by course, by key word, by subject area, by location, by study method—however you want to learn and whatever you want to study, you can search for it on this website. Do I have to live in Perth to attend Perth College UHI?
Located just west of Perth city centre, and surrounded by breathtaking views of the Grampians, our campus is the ideal place to study. But as much as we love the area, our students don’t have to live here to study here. Many of our courses are available online, part-time, via distance learning or in one of our local learning centres, so you can get the most out of college.
How old do you have to be to go to College?
Our students range in age from very young, to the young at heart. We have special short taster courses for some S2 school pupils, and many S3 and S4 students come to College during their school day for our ‘Skills for Work’ programme.
Isn’t College just for young people?
It’s true, many of our students come straight from school and are younger. However, the average age at Perth College UHI is 33 and we have plenty of students of all ages—all the way up to 91 years—who study with us. Whether you’re developing your career, facing a major life change or just want to learn something new, everyone—regardless of age—is welcome at Perth College UHI.
I have a business to run. Are there any good courses to help develop my workforce?
When you own or manage a business, there is always a lot to think about. At Perth College UHI, our dedicated Business Development Centre works with all types of businesses and organisations—from small retailers, to local governments, to multi-national corporations—to ensure that our clients’ workforce is compliant with relevant legislation; trained in the latest technologies and provided with important career and professional development opportunities.
How much does College cost?
There is no easy answer to this question as it depends on what you’re studying and what your personal circumstances are—many of our students have all their fees covered, others have some assistance, and still others will pay the full fee for any given course. The bottom line, however, is that through a variety ways (loans, bursaries and other programmes) it is affordable to come to college. We have trained funding advisers who will help you determine what assistance you may be eligible for, and how best to finance your studies.
Can I work and come to College at the same time?
Yes. Many of our students study part-time, though distance learning or online so they can fit College around their other commitments, including their work schedule. In fact, three out of four of all our students study part-time. Find out more about our learning options.
How many years does it take to get a qualification?
At Perth College UHI we offer a variety or courses and qualifications, and the length of time you are here depends on what and how you study, and to what level. Generally, our full-time students will complete an NQ, NC, SVQ or HNC in one year, an HND in two years, a degree in three years and an honours degree in four years. Again, this is a rough guide, and how long you’re here with us is dependent on the decisions and choices you make.
I have kids. Is there a place they can stay while I’m in class?
We have a nursery located right on campus, and a number of other resources to help you find appropriate childcare.
My children are in school and want to go to University. Is Perth College UHI right for them?
We offer great options for students who are ultimately interested in University. As a member of the UHI Millennium Institute, students can start at Perth College and advance directly to a degree. Also, we have many students who choose to take their Highers with us. We offer more than two dozen Highers —from biology to sociology—that fit around both school and work schedules.
What is the UHI Millennium Institute?
The College is a member of UHI Millennium Institute the only higher education institution based in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. Through our partnership of fifteen colleges and research institutions and network of more than 50 local learning centres, we are making it easier for people to take part in quality higher education across the Highlands and Islands.

Do you have classes just for fun?
Yes, there's an extensive leisure programme with an great mix of arts, crafts, sports, leisure, food, language, dance and other fun classes. Classes generally begin in the autumn and spring sessions, but you should consult the leisure section for more information.
I have some special learning needs. Can the College help with that?
We believe education is a right for all, so we make every effort to support students with learning difficulties and disabilities. Education and training on offer includes mainstream programmes and social and vocational studies programmes.
Can you help me find accommodation in Perth?
We're currently building our own halls on campus, but we still keep a list of places to stay locally on our accommodation register. Properties range from private homes to flats.
Is there any social life at Perth College UHI?
Perth has plenty of pubs, clubs and other activities on offer. You can find out more from our Students’ Association at Freshers' Fair when you start here. We also have a large student centre, the Union, which boasts a Costa Coffee, pool tables and a stage for gigs and other events.
I was a student at Perth College UHI and had a great time. Is there any way to get in touch with my old classmates?
We have an Alumni Association for all past students. Membership is automatic on completion of your course, and members receive newsletters, are invited to events and have the opportunity to get in touch with long lost classmates through the association.
I just want to start my own business. Is there any point in coming to College?
Perth College UHI, along with the UHI Millennium Institute, is on the cutting edge of educational entrepreneurialism. Our Centre for Enterprise provides practical and theoretical guidance to those interested in starting their own business and being more enterprising. This is a great place to start your start-up!
